Innovation takes a community, and Colorado has a particularly rich and vital range of contributors. If you are reading these words, you are most likely part of that community.
If you didn't know that, then let us be the first to welcome you home.
As part of the Colorado Innovation Community, your needs are as diverse as innovation itself. Very few organizations do innovation all by themselves. We use the term "outsourcing" to imply the web of relationships required to define, develop, produce, and deliver innovations.
This isn't a community like any you've known. It's bigger than the biggest companies. It embraces every industry and integrates a vast range of disciplines. It both includes parts of government and reaches further than governments. It includes the statewide higher education system and has far greater impact. It is far richer than Colorado's industry clusters. It is not bound to the Front Range; it is statewide.
InnoSearch Colorado plays a focusing role by creating visibility and opportunities. Indeed, that's why you have joined or will join InnoSearch. Every part of the Community benefits from a resource locator focused on innovation.
We look forward to a long and successful relationship in which you gain new opportunities to serve other businesses in the Colorado Innovation Community.
Catalyzing Community
Our innovation community can become even more collaborative. Venture capitalists, among others, have long noted that lack of tight integration slows entrepreneurship, alliances, and technology transfer.
Economics researchers note the importance of industry "clusters," yet those pillars of the economy employ a small fraction of professionals involved in innovation. Indeed, elements of clusters rarely collaborate with each other.
Catalyzing this community requires multiple, new, ongoing, mutually beneficial interactions between potential community members... all focused on support of innovation and/or innovators in Colorado.
Catalysis is most productive when it creates wide ranges of new business opportunities over time. Each win-win contract or alliance builds relationships as foundations for further collaborations.
A stronger Community increases potentials for collaborations, alliances, shared risks, a stable economy, and ongoing, multi-faceted investment in Colorado.
Outsourcing enables innovation. That is, businesses doing innovation must focus on core competencies and need key resources. They may not know that specific Colorado resource providers exist. A powerful suite of infrastructure elements also supports innovators. Investment is required for both entrepreneurship intrapreneurship.
This cross-industry combination - innovators as both clients and contractors plus infrastructure and investors - forms the heart of our Community. We enjoy a remarkable wealth of resources both doing innovation and enabling/supporting innovation done by others.
Connectivity and visibility overcome isolation. Innovators who outsource may not be aware of the missions of universities and federal labs to support innovation in their local communities. Innovators who contract delivery of services may not be aware of requests for proposals. Neither may recognize potential allies that would enable joint proposals in competition with larger firms.
The more we know about the strengths of our colleagues, the better we can leverage each other for mutual gains.
InnoSearch will help catalyze the state's Innovation Community by enabling connections and resulting opportunities. We don't guarantee revenues. Each stakeholder must do its own hard work to turn contacts into contracts leading to profitable innovation and stronger brand equity.
